The Machado family has owned the orchard since 1926. Originally growing Plums and Pears, they also planted Red and Golden Delicious, Empire, and Parkdale Beauty Apples. Peaches, Plums, and Nectarines were added later. In 1980 a Fruit Farm Stand opened on the present site allowing the Machados to market their Farm Fresh Fruits and produce directly to the public.
Over the years, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples were planted as well as Peaches
Gary Machado opened the Pie Store in 1982. He restored an antique apple peeler and made all the equipment, including a cherry pitter, a pie dough mixer, a pie press(for bottom crust), a cherry stemmer and washer, and a apple slicer. All of the Top Pie Crusts are rolled by hand. Be sure to stop by and get a Farm Fresh Fruit Pies.
Only fresh locally grown fruit is used in the pies which include cherry, apricot, various berries, peach, plum, apple, and pumpkin. The season varies for each fruit so call if you are looking for something specific. Machado's Orchard is open May 16 - Dec 23. Stop by for Farm Fresh Fruits and Vegetables.
Machado's Orchards offers School Tours hosted by Shawnie Machado. The tours are available in August and September. Children are taken throughout the peach and apple orchard, sampling right off the trees. The tour also includes viewing the apple peeler at work, the fruit cooler, and the pie kitchen. Finally, visitors can try their famous apple juice and apples in the orchard picnic area.
